What is Contract Furniture?
Contract furniture may look similar to residential furniture; however, the crucial difference is our contract furniture has been manufactured to withstand the heavy use associated with contract environments. Such as restaurants, cafes, bars, clubs, hotels, educational facilities, healthcare, leisure environments and all other contract environments. It is the strength and durability of contract furniture that sets it apart from furniture for residential use.
How is Contract Furniture made?
Contract furniture may look like residential furniture and it may look like the inexpensive furniture available at large retail furniture outlets. However, there is a crucial difference in contract furniture in that it’s specifically made for a different purpose. Contract furniture is specifically made to withstand the heavy use associated with the contract environment (restaurants, cafes, bars, clubs, hotels, educational facilities, leisure environments and all other contract environments). It is the strength and durability of contract furniture that sets it apart from furniture for a commercial setting, and makes it ideal for the contract industry. Contract furniture may appear to be the same quality, but the materials used are a shade better – a shade more consistent – a shade more expensive, and the manufacturing process more precise and careful.
What is hospitality furniture?
Our hospitality furniture includes designs suitable for restaurants, cafes, bars, clubs, hotels, educational facilities, leisure environments and healthcare. These select collections provide our customers or their clients with durable and stylish contract furniture suitable for the hospitality sector. Our well-informed sales team are available to assist you in finding the ideal furniture choice for your hospitality setting.
How do I know I am buying contract quality items?
Let us know your requirements as all of our contract items of furniture are designed for intensive use and with our in-house manufacturing, any item can be adapted, or component strengthened if and when required. Our durable contract products are purpose made for use in these environments.
Can I specify any of your chairs with your tables?
Yes, all our chairs and tables are designed with the clarity of ‘form following function’. Therefore most of the chairs, benches and tables illustrated on the web-site share similar proportions and can easily be mixed and matched.
How is your furniture constructed?
Where required, all of our furniture is constructed in the time-honoured fashion of tight fitting mortise and tenon joints with teak dowels. This ensures robust, wobble-free furniture equally at home in your garden, or the high traffic areas of luxury hotels. Ours is the specifier’s choice!
What is FSC?
The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an international non-profit organisation founded in 1993 to support environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable management of the world’s forests. The FSC trademark on a product indicates that the wood used in its construction comes from a source that has been certified by the FSC as meeting these standards. Click here for the FSC Website. Lindsey Teak is committed to the principles of the FSC and when possible use FSC certified teak in our furniture. However, currently there is not enough FSC certified teak available for our total production.
Where does your teak come from?
Our teak is sourced from the sustainable plantations of Perum Perhutani, on the island of Java. These plantations are owned and managed by the government who have a strict policy with regard to the age, size and number of trees felled each year, together with a comprehensive sustainable replanting program. All our teak furniture is audited and issued with a SVLK certificate certifying that the teak has been legally harvested and that the furniture can be sold and marketed in any EU country. The EU Timber Regulations (EUTR) 995/2010 prohibit the placing of illegally harvested and produced timber and timber-based products onto the European Markets.
What type of wood is teak?
Teak, Tectona grandis, is a dense, close-grained hardwood high in natural oils and rubber. These characteristics give teak strength and durability, making it virtually impervious to the effects of rain, salt, sun or snow and hence very resistant to rotting.
Can we purchase full mixed container-loads from you?
Yes, we are a mixed item container-load (FCL) specialist. Our quality, ‘best-buy’ pricing and short lead times have ensured a world-wide customer base from North America to Europe, South Africa, Asia and the Middle to Far East.
Can I keep my furniture outside all year?
Yes, the properties of teak enable it to withstand the most inclement of weather, hence its use as decking on ships. However, please ensure that there is not a dramatic change in the heat and/or humidity as this may cause end-grain checking.
How do I care for my teak furniture?
Teak does not require any special maintenance routine apart from occasional cleaning. If left to age naturally outside by being exposed to light, air and rain, then the surface of the teak will gradually change to a soft, silver-grey as the pigments in the surface layer of the wood start to fade away.
If you want to store your furniture over the winter, we advise that you do so in a garden shed, garage or outhouse. However, we advise that you do not move teak furniture from the garden straight into a heated indoor room for storage, as the sharp differences in temperature and humidity may cause the wood to split.
